Spring Creek Prairie Audubon Center is an 808-acre tallgrass prairie nature preserve located 20 minutes southwest of Lincoln, Nebraska. Visitors can enjoy miles of walking trails, nearly 650 acres of native (never plowed) tallgrass prairie, ponds and wetlands, wildflowers and grasses, a diverse assortment of birds and other wildlife, historic nineteenth-century wagon ruts, peaceful surroundings, and beautiful scenic vistas. Volunteer opportunities are available and education programs for all ages are offered year-round.

It is one of a growing number of Audubon Centers of the National Audubon Society.

The theme of this year's Twilight on the Tallgrass is "A Trail in Time," marking the 150th anniversary of the Nebraska City-Fort Kearny Cutoff to the Oregon Trail (trail ruts are visible at Spring Creek Prairie).

Discovery Packs

Specially designed Discovery Packs are now available to help visitors have a richer outdoor experience on the prairie trails. These backpacks are available for checkout and each contains an activity guide, an assortment of tools, and a different theme to help guide visitors around the prairie through different sets of “eyes.” Click "Discovery Packs" above for more information.

Deb Hauswald Named Audubon Educator of the Year

Years of outstanding success and commitment in introducing people to the wonders nature and conservation have earned national recognition for Deborah Hauswald.

She received the National Audubon Society's prestigious Tamar Chotzen Audubon Educator of the Year award in ceremonies at a gathering of the organization's national and state leadership in October in Columbus, Ohio. Hauswald was honored for nine years of delivering innovative nature discovery experiences to children at the Spring Creek Prairie Audubon Center in Denton, where she serves as Education Coordinator.

We are now taking reservations to enjoy delicious food and wine with live music while seated outdoors at one very long table winding over the beautiful autumn prairie as the sun sets.
