Come Visit Us

Spring Creek Prairie Audubon Center is an 808-acre tallgrass prairie nature preserve located 20 minutes southwest of Lincoln, Nebraska. Visitors can enjoy miles of walking trails, nearly 650 acres of native (never plowed) tallgrass prairie, ponds and wetlands, wildflowers and grasses, a diverse assortment of birds and other wildlife, historic nineteenth-century wagon ruts, peaceful surroundings, and beautiful scenic vistas. Volunteer opportunities are available and education programs for all ages are offered year-round.

It is one of a growing number of Audubon Centers of the National Audubon Society.

TogetherGreen Grant

Spring Creek Prairie Audubon Center has been awarded a $45,422 TogetherGreen Innovation Grant. The funding will be used to create a Prairie Club for the Crete, Nebraska, community and a summer camp for Ponca Tribal youth. Are you a member of the Crete, Nebraska community? Are you interested in nature and love spending time outside? We are looking for 40 such people to join our prairie nature club. It is a year-long program and includes 17 sessions. Transportation is provided and there are no fees to become a member. Just come and enjoy the prairie with us!

Trail Camera

Our new motion-detector camera is being placed at various sites on our property to get up-close views of the animals that are using our trails.

Great Backyard Bird Count

The 2011 Great Backyard Bird Count will take place Friday, February 17, through Monday, February 20. See http://www.birdsource.org/gbbc/ for details.

The Great Backyard Bird Count is an annual four-day event that engages bird watchers of all ages in counting birds to create a real-time snapshot of where the birds are across the continent. Anyone can participate, from beginners to experts. It’s free, fun, and easy—and it helps the birds.

Discovery Packs

Specially designed Discovery Packs are now available to help visitors have a richer outdoor experience on the prairie trails. These backpacks are available for checkout and each contains an activity guide, an assortment of tools, and a different theme to help guide visitors around the prairie through different sets of “eyes.” Click "Discovery Packs" above for more information.
